Disney World begins phased reopening despite spike of coronavirus cases. Florida saw its largest one-day spike in virus-related hospitalizations on Friday. Employees called to delay the reopening, however, the company is still going forward. It is important to note that the park will reopen without 750 performers. The union representing the performers, filed a grievance against the company, alleging retaliation against members over a union demand that they be tested for COVID-19.
Disney’s Parks, Experiences and Consumer Products segment was its fastest-growing profit driver last year. It seems that Disney is choosing profit over safety. The pandemic has impacted the company greatly, and they feel it is essential to start re-opening. Disney's stock is down over 15% year to date.
